SHIZUKA Named SKIN-CARE GURU by New York Magazine in 2004 SPA and Fitness issue!

Shizuka has been named as one of the THE BEST SKIN CARE TECHNICIANS in NEW YORK MAGAZINE’S SPA & FITNESS SPECIAL in NEW YORK MAGAZINE!
In this issue, beauty editor, Beth Landman states:
When Japanese native Shizuka Ikeuchi, a single mom, took her two young sons to see famed Upper East Side dermatologist Robert Bernstein, she and the doctor struck up a friendship that eventually led to marriage. “The boys were really in need of a father figure,” remembers Bernstein. She became fascinated with her husband’s field, and in 1995 she started doing facials at his office, as well as at a spa in Glen Rock, NJ. By 1999, she was so busy that she opened a space in NY, a Zen-like setting that reflects her own tranquility. Her original following was largely Asian, including well-known Japanese actors, but a wide range of clients has since discovered her luxurious facials and treatments, including Shiatsu foot, hand, and neck massage , a protein and mineral-packed pearl masks (both $115), and an aromatherapy-infused body wrap ($100). What a heartwarming story, and thanks to the writer it tells us how Shizuka met Dr. Bernstein too!

Attention chocolate lovers!

We are having such a harsh winter; it is a good idea to have a cup of hot cocoa to warm up. This season in New York there are wonderful new chocolate boutiques offering piping hot, tasty cups of cocoa. St. Valentine’s Day is approaching, and it might be a great idea to treat yourself and your loved one with a cup of cocoa.
Does chocolate cause acne?
Not according to studies performed by the Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Eating or not eating chocolate made no difference in the skin condition of the study participants.
Chocolate — particularly dark chocolate — contains antioxidants and specific flavonoids that have been shown to decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease. In addition, oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat also found in olive oil, makes up one-third of the fat in chocolate and has been shown to be beneficial for heart health. Well, of course, we must not forget the word MODERATION. It contains sugar, quite a bit of sugar, which may affect acne.
Science aside, if you plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a chocolate or hot cocoa, below are some boutiques we recommend.
