Shizuka's Message

Shizuka BernsteinWarmest greetings from all of us at Shizuka New York Day Spa!  In this time of economic uncertainty, many of you have expressed to me your anxieties.  I want to remind you that at Shizuka New York Day Spa we are here to provide a restful haven for you away from the stresses and strains of the day.

The power of a little self-pampering can go a long way in these difficult times. Taking a few minutes out of your day to relax leads to increased productivity and better health. I personally find that studying Japanese tea ceremony really allows me to center my thoughts and emotions.  You may be able to find the same feeling in a warm bath at home or a soothing aromatherapy massage at our New York City day spa.

This edition of our newsletter focuses on relaxation through scent.  Aromas can bring powerful feelings of peace and wellbeing.  I encourage you to explore scents that speak to you and to use these at home or work when you are in the most need of calm.  I am also proud to introduce a new series of massage at Shizuka New York Day Spa.  AromaScape is an exciting aromatherapy massage that uses aromas to take you on a sensory journey.  As an introduction, we will be offering $20 off any of our three AromaScape massages (CenterGlow and Inspire) at Shizuka New York Day Spa through November 30, 2008 when you mention this newsletter.

Whether at home or at Shizuka NY, I hope you will take time for yourself to relax, refresh and rejuvenate.

Sincerely,

Shizuka Bernstein

AromaScape Massage

Shizuka’s AromaScape Massage is more than aromatherapy massage.  It is a journey through an aromatic landscape designed to promote heightened relaxation through scent.  It is also a therapeutic escape from the stress of everyday life.  A series of evocative aromas are layered during the massage to transport you out of the ordinary as muscle tension melts away with soothing massage.  Aromas are delivered to the senses throughout the massage using many techniques such as ambient and localized warming, steaming, heated hot stones and in the massage oil itself.

At-Home Aromatherapy Massage

Use the soothing benefits of aromas at home with these great tips designed to turn bedtime into your time! Essential oils are available at many local retailers, such as Whole Foods, and online.

Tip #1: Bring a bottle of Naturopathica Plant Milk Mist to bed with you. Plant milk mists are byproducts of the essential oil distillation process and contain a light fragrance of the essential oil from which they are drawn. Lavender-Honey and Rose-Geranium are available in the spa or online atShizukaNY.com. Before you lay down, mist your pillow and sheets with your plant milk mist of choice.  You can also mist overhead right before drifting off to sleep. Close your eyes and breathe in deeply.
Tip #2: Mix 1/2 Tbsp. of base oil (grapeseed, sunflower, peanut, or light olive oil) with 3 – 4 drops of a soothing essential oil such as lavender, rose, chamomile, or frankincense.  Work together in your hands to warm the oils and gently massage into your chest/décolleté area before you lay down.  You may also apply a small amount under your nose for a heightened effect.
