‘GREEN’ BEAUTY
A number of salons around the country have started offering “green”-based organic manicures and organic pedicures, using polishes and other products that are free of the usual chemicals.
The Nagomi Manicure and Sakura Pedicure are popular offerings at the Shizuka New York City Nail Salon. While the treatments use conventional polishes, the massage, cleansing and exfoliation aspects of them are based in organic products, says manager Lance Suzuki. Sake-Kasu, which is a by-product of the sake fermenting process, is whipped into a cream to brighten and moisturize the skin, while organic rice bran, olive oil, crystallized honey and a cream made from the yuzu orange are combined on the spot. “We use all-natural and as much organic as possible to form our own home-made products,” says Suzuki. “And because we make it in front of the client, they know it’s not a preformed thing.”
The manicure and pedicure combo costs $100. —K.D.
