Using sun protection (sunscreen/sun block) on your face is essential year round. Don’t forget to use it when vacationing in sunny climates because sunburn is the primary cause of wrinkles, spots and blemishes. If your skin is feeling dry and burnt after your summer activities, be sure to hydrate it with a moisturizer or toner spray appropriate for your skin type.

Vitamin C is vital to the health of your skin. To make sure your body is getting enough of it, be sure to eat fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C. You can also take vitamin supplements or use topical products such as the C-mollient Gel ($58), and Cefine’s Nanomic C-30EX ($110) offered at Shizuka Day Spa in New York City. Please keep in mind that smoking destroys Vitamin C, and is thus bad for your skin.

Quick Fix #1: Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is typically used in New York City to treat a variety of skin conditions including hyperpigmentation (discoloration), enlarged pores, acne scars, and stretch marks. In this non-surgical procedure, tiny crystals are vacuumed across the surface of the skin, removing dead skin cells and resurfacing the skin. KojiLac Skin-Brightening Cream $63
This lightening cream uses Kojic and Lactic acids to brighten and even out the complexion.

KojiLac-CHQ Pads 2% $66
Hydroquinone (2%) facilitates deeper penetration of the lightening agents. Convenient pads allow easy application and clean up.

At-Home Chemical Peeling Products
Shizuka Day Spa in New York City offers two Multi Hydroxyacid (HA) Exfoliants that safely recreate at home the effects of a light chemical peel. The Multi HA Weekly Pads ($37.80) contain a combination of Lactic, Glycolic, and Salicylic acids. The Multi HA Daily Pads ($27.30) contain lower concentrations of these acids, making them appropriate for daily use. They also contain a small percentage of Hydrogen Peroxide which helps to minimize acne-forming bacteria.
