A Message from Shizuka

Using sun protection (sunscreen/sun block) on your face is essential year round. Don’t forget to use it when vacationing in sunny climates because sunburn is the primary cause of wrinkles, spots and blemishes. If your skin is feeling dry and burnt after your summer activities, be sure to hydrate it with a moisturizer or toner spray appropriate for your skin type.

Vitamin C is vital to the health of your skin. To make sure your body is getting enough of it, be sure to eat fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C. You can also take vitamin supplements or use topical products such as the C-mollient Gel ($58), and Cefine’s Nanomic C-30EX ($110) offered at Shizuka Day Spa in New York City. Please keep in mind that smoking destroys Vitamin C, and is thus bad for your skin.

Shizuka Day Spa in New York City offers a variety of quick-fix solutions to treat sun damaged skin. Below you will find further information about these helpful treatments and some at-home tips.

Quick Fix #1: Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is typically used in New York City to treat a variety of skin conditions including hyperpigmentation (discoloration), enlarged pores, acne scars, and stretch marks. In this non-surgical procedure, tiny crystals are vacuumed across the surface of the skin, removing dead skin cells and resurfacing the skin. Over time, clients can expect to see a general refinement of the texture and appearance of the skin. During the course of treatment, clients should remember to apply sun protection regularly. The failure to do so may lead to undesirable results such as further discoloration of the skin. Although Microdermabrasion is most commonly used on the face, it is also effective on other parts of the body including the back and décolleté areas.

Crystal Peel (Microdermabrasion) $250

Quick Fix #2: Lightening Facial

Shizuka Day Spa in New York City’s Lightening Facial is designed to reduce discoloration and pigmentation. Its ionizing properties allow lightening agents and Vitamin C to penetrate deeply. To complete the treatment we apply a Collagen and Kojic Acid mask that rejuvenates the skin while promoting a lighter and more even complexion.

For more dramatic effects, the skin Lightening Facial is effectively combined with Shizuka Day Spa in New York City’s Signature Anti-Aging Treatment. Using Intense Pulsed Light, this treatment targets pigmentation issues while stimulating collagen formation.

Lightening Facial $180

Brightening Photo Rejuvenation $300

Quick Fix #3: At-Home Fixes

The following products can be used to supplement the above treatments or to create your own at-home lightening regimen.

KojiLac Skin-Brightening Cream $63
This lightening cream uses Kojic and Lactic acids to brighten and even out the complexion.

KojiLac-CHQ Pads 2% $66
Hydroquinone (2%) facilitates deeper penetration of the lightening agents. Convenient pads allow easy application and clean up.

At-Home Chemical Peeling Products
Shizuka Day Spa in New York City offers two Multi Hydroxyacid (HA) Exfoliants that safely recreate at home the effects of a light chemical peel. The Multi HA Weekly Pads ($37.80) contain a combination of Lactic, Glycolic, and Salicylic acids. The Multi HA Daily Pads ($27.30) contain lower concentrations of these acids, making them appropriate for daily use. They also contain a small percentage of Hydrogen Peroxide which helps to minimize acne-forming bacteria.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant $45
This exfoliant powder gently sloughs away dead skin cells when mixed with water. Lightening agents also help to maintain an even complexion.
